Who We Are
The Cap and Mabel Burrow Foundation, formerly Lighting-the-Way Projects, Inc. is a non-profit agency that works throughout the year to provide additional support to meet the medical, social, housing, transportation and other needs of people with developmental disabilities, mental illness and addictive diseases. The Foundation provides help to people throughout Randolph County, the Sandhills area and the Triad.
History
Cap and Mabel Burrow founded Therapeutic Alternatives in 1958 when they began operation of the Randolph County Home at the request of the county commissioners. The agency has continued to grow over the years and today serves nearly 1,000 people and employs around 700 people across the Triad area. Lou B. Wilson, President of Therapeutic Alternatives and the daughter of Cap and Mabel Burrow, said, "Giving to others and sharing the things in life God had blessed their family with was such a great joy and blessing to our parents. We feel honored to continue that tradition today in their name."
What the Foundation Does
To date, the Foundation has provided well over $100,000 to assist people in the community in the form of purchasing medications and groceries, helping with utility and heating bills, providing assistance during the holidays, making home improvements in the form of ramps and other projects and purchasing adaptive equipment such as hearing aids and wheelchairs. In many cases, people seeking help from the Foundation have exhausted all other efforts for assistance.
To raise funds, the Foundation holds several fundraisers throughout the year and seeks support from the community and local businesses.
